JUANITA RAMOS
  Welcome - Bienvenidos

Juanita Isabel Ramos, born 15 April 1963, Estado Bolivar (Bolivar State), Venezuela.

At a very young age Ramos applied herself to the arts.  While  attending art school in Venezuela,  she felt her pull was not in the the direction of the "typical" art classes.  In her minds eye she saw something very distinct and her first experience with art critics (Virgilio Trómpiz) and (Pedro León Zapata) at an exhibition only helped to seal her faith. They told her that her piece was the only "arte verdadero" (true art) in the entire room - one that could be felt as well as appreciated.  She left the classes and decided to see where her art would take her….and she has never looked back.

A lot of her work is detailed with a simple prayer for her children, for her family, and oftentimes for even the last person who came through the door in her studio,  as if whispering a silent prayer giving thanks to her Creator. That detail may be so entwined into her work that it’s possible you would not see it unless it were pointed out

Today, her work is highly recognized in Venezuela and, being a country that is 75% Catholic,  many of her paintings are dedicated to the devotees to the faith.  Her life-size Madonnas (Virgins) are magestic and stunning, awing the visitors at her last solo exhibition in 2011.   And as a member of Circulo Internacional de Las Artes Nueva Esparta (CIANE) ( International Circle of The Arts in Nueva Esparta Margarita Island )

Under Direction of Jesus Morales Ruiz, she now  participates in all their events. These past years she has had the pleasure of being invited by June Wong to participate in the Annual Liguanea Art Festival in Jamaica and she instantly became a sensation. Now her love for the island leaves her very anxious to see where destiny will lead her.

What is Naïve Art?

"A definition, admittedly, is not easy. While their work shows certain common features, there are other characteristics which are at variance with one another. Some elements seem to project beyond the purely naïve, carrying the painter into the realm of high art.  A naïve painter is untutored and has invented their own expressive and stylistic alphabet entirely unaided. This does not, of course, imply that conversely a 'trained' painter can never be a Naïve. There are "professional' painters amongst the Naïves , such as Marc Chagall.  Every truly naïve painter has their own vision of the world which, in some mysterious way, is uniquely different from that of any other.

This is why naïve art is not something that can be taught, and any attempt to imitate it will be as spurious a copy of an abstract picture by Kandinsky. For the same reason, there can never be a School of Naïve Painting.

It has been said that a true naïve artist is Born not Taught.

JUANITA RAMOS MILLAN
